“It gives you a different outlook on life and it gives you a different outlook when you go off to college….it’s been a really great experience for me.”
Jordana Weinberg, Dallas TX
Admission advisors of the world's foremost universities, and a growing number of students and parents, recommend that students take a year away between high school and college -- a gap year -- to expand their horizons. The experience is often transformative, leading to personal growth and a sense of fulfillment -- as well as a lot of fun.

A gap year in Israel offers students the unique opportunity to deepen their connection to Judaism, to Jewish history and to the Jewish people, to learn and speak Hebrew, and to establish lifelong friendships with other young Jews. Ask anyone who has experienced a year in Israel and they will probably tell you it was one of the best of their lives.

Gap year programs in Israel can, for the most part, be divided into the following categories: Jewish learning programs (yeshivas/seminaries), Israel experience programs, and university programs.

SIACH combines the best of all Israel programs:
  • Jewish learning on hot topics of interests to students
  • A multifaceted Israel experience by the experts in Israel education
  • The opportunity to earn nearly a year of college credit
Furthermore, we offer Jewish communal living in top-quality accommodations in the heart of Jerusalem.  In addition, because SIACH is not affiliated with any particular movement, students are not pushed to adopt a pre-determined ideology or life-style but rather to find their own path and chart their own course. This fact helps us create a fascinating community of students who are respectful of their peers, regardless of their chosen path.

An impressive array of today's top rabbis, Jewish thinkers and educators -- including Rabbi Yitz Greenberg, Rabbi David Silber and Professor Hanan Alexander -- have endorsed the SIACH program and serve on its board of advisors.

Below you may learn more about each of the key components of our program.  You may also want to view our annual calendar and weekly schedule.

Explore Judaism and learn about today's Israel.

We offer an in-depth, engaging and accredited Jewish and Israel Studies program.  Jewish Studies provide an opportunity to examine Jewish sources on today's most pressing issues ranging from Kosher sex to the ethics of warfare.  We'll also grapple with the issues of "choseness" and the nature of God among other big questions of faith.

Israel Studies, which includes frequent Hebrew language lessons, helps students develop educated opinions in the vociferous debates of Israeli society.  We examine tensions between religious and secular Jews, the future of "the territories" and much more.  Students also learn about ancient Israel's historical significance as well as contemporary Israel's successes in the areas of business and technology.

Experience Israel the Muss way. Over 18,000 alumni loved it!

For 35 years, the Alexander Muss Institute for Israel Education (AMIIE) has been at the forefront in providing educational experiences that build meaningful and long-lasting connections between young Jews and the land and people of Israel. Using the country as a living classroom, students relive the past and its implications for the present while having the time of their lives.

As a new full-year program of AMIIE, SIACH enables students to have the ultimate Israel experience by encountering Israel in its many dimensions, and by exploring Israel as an insider. SIACH features frequent hikes and outings to places of both historical and contemporary importance, participation in Israeli cultural events, speaking and interacting in Hebrew with Israeli peers, volunteering and community service, professional internships and guest speakers from all walks of Israeli life.
